Where We Work
Carpenter & MacNeille and our sister company Stephen Terhune Woodworking call Essex Massachusetts our home. We work out of an historic trolley barn built originally in the 1900's to house the generator and trolley cars for the Cape Ann Line. Since we acquired the property in 2005, we have gone through an extensive restoration and remodeling of the structure and are pursuing National Historic Register status for it.
The great brick barn which once housed the trolley cars is now home to our cabinet shop. The high ceilings and plentiful natural light provide an ideal environment in which to create beautiful woodwork. We all call the space "Terry's Shop" after our late Co-Founder Terry Carpenter who worked tirelessly to create the facility.
The former generator room now houses our offices. Attached is a 70 foot high brick chimney which was damaged in a powerful storm in 2007. Since then we have completely restored the chimney as well as the adjacent shed structure which is now home to our expanded design studio.
