After 12 years of living in a modest cottage with chockablock additions, the owners of this idyllic property overlooking a rocky seaside cliff on Massachusetts's Cape Ann decided to start from scratch.
 

The homeowners, a married couple with adult children and grandchildren, knew they did not want to move away from the property they loved so much. A 19th Century Gem

 

Presented with a fascinating architectural puzzle located on a spectacular stretch of Massachusetts oceanfront, Carpenter & MacNeille Architects and Builders led by Design Principal Rob MacNeille, rose to the challenge, recently completing significant renovations, additions, and architectural clarifications to the property. The result is a beautiful home, a seamless and eclectic mix of original 1870's building fabric, historical details added at different times in different styles, and new additions designed carefully to extend the proportion and detail of the original structure.

Carpenter & MacNeille Interiors, directed by Elizabeth Brosnan Hourihan, worked very closely with the architectural team and the owners of the home to create a beautiful series of rooms filled with a combination of antiques and new furnishings perfectly complementing the architecture. The full array of Carpenter & MacNeille's construction skills and craftsmanship deployed by Director of Construction James Fitzgerald collaborated with the design team to solve the puzzle and bring the project to beautiful conclusion.
